5 months old

Moki formally Nash
 Hi everyone,
I thought it would be be good to finally get my blog updated.  For those of you who have purchased one of our pups or those of you who have a puppy I think you will have some fun looking at the pictures and hearing a story or two. The pups are nearly 5 months old and it sounds like they are all getting big.
Our pup who we started out calling Jackie we now call Oakley (thanks Josh and Amelia).  She has been so much fun.  Our 9 year old son loves to spend hours playing in the back yard with her and they are becoming real good pals. She keeps her Mom on her toes and often I hear Mom giving her a scolding if she gets too carried away.
We recently noticed a bump on top of Oakley's head so we took her to the vet.  He said she had just bumped it and it will go away in a couple of weeks.  While we were there we had her weighed and she weighs a solid 40 pounds. Wow!
My brother introduced me to his friend Stewart and this is his poodle pointer pup  Great guy and pup.

Oakleys first day on pigeons

I've been working on Come, Sit, Stay, Heal and on fetch. My next big thing will be whoa.  I've introduced her to pigeons and gun fire and just yesterday I took her pheasant hunting for the first time. She did great kept up with the other grown dogs had fun and had a great day.  We also got her swimming for the first time.  She took to it like a pro just like her Mom and made me proud.

Below are a few pictures of my boys from the youth Pheasant Hunt that took place yesterday.  The dog work was great and and the boy work was even better.  Parker went 2 for 3 on his shots and took home 2 nice roosters!  His little brother Brandon had a great time seeing how Big Brother gets it done.

Look at Sage on point in the background

I have a few updates from the puppies so below are a few pictures and stories.
This is Lady, formally Harley

Gary is the owner of Lady.  Gary tells me he loves her and she is very smart.  Gary tells me that when they go out in the horse pasture she likes to fetch horse biscuits over and over again.  Look at how gentle Gary is with her.  She looks very happy.

This is Moki,  His owners tell me that he runs with her 3 miles a day now and she is sure he could go more but doesn't want to put too much stress on his young joints.  She says "training has been a breeze.  He has picked up everything very quickly".  Also he enjoys the couch more than his bed.

This is Chief and his owner Chris.  Chris decided to keep the name of Chief.  He is a very handsome boy.  Chris tells me that they just went to his first  Pheasant farm.  Chris said "He was amazing!  The owner of the farm couldn't get over how good looking he is or how well he held his points and how well he retrieved".  The owner wants to know where he got Chief.

This is Kota formerly know as Clark.  Look at the muscles on that boy.  The dog not Barry.  Barry says"Kota is doing great.  He weighed 34 lb(I'm sure he is 40 lbs now). at his last vet visit and is very healthy.  We have been working on basic obedience (come, sit, down, stay, heel, whoa, kennel, etc.) and he knows how to do all of them.  However, he doesn’t always choose to do them. Smile  He will get there.  We have also been working with him with birds.  I have been over with Tyler and have introduced him to birds.  He has a great nose and point.  It is so fun to see him work the birds.  We also shot over him and it didn’t even phase him.  We have been exposing him to lots of noise so that probably helps."  Kota has already been on his first grouse hunt.

This is Bella, I don't have a recent photo but I do have an update.  Rich says "Bella is now tipping the scale at 40# and has taken to diving under the beds in the guest room. It’s funny watching her dive under the bed; then trying to entice her out. We are really enjoying watching her grow and develop. Rich is also considering taking up hunting again.  I hope you do Rich!

The season is upon us.  Take your pups out and enjoy them!  I know I am.

PUPPIES 11 WEEKS OLD

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this post on the web.  My" puppies 9 weeks old" and their pictures for some reason had a problem and did not post.  I appreciate all the notes back that I have received and the pictures are really fun to see.  I can't believe how big the puppies are getting.  I got word this week that our puppy that we call Clark now weighs 18 pounds.

I received words from our  puppy we called Annie, she now goes by Bella.  Here is the note I received.

Hi Shawn,

Bella had her first vet visit last week, and to say she was a hit would be an understatement. The girls oohed and aahed over her, and even the vet was talking baby talk to her. She got a clean bill of health and weighed 12.8 lbs. Last weigh-in at home was 15 lbs. She’s getting her 9-week shots today.

Training is coming along slowly; still working on sit, stay and come. Right now it’s more play training then serious business. Once she reaches 9 weeks it will be time to get down to business. She’s already pointing the wing and playing Frisbee; though she is reluctant to give it up. She loves her large back yard, but there is a lion (AKA: yellow lab) in the house behind us that roars at her when he’s out. Initially, she was really scared, but is doing better. When she gets really happy and is playing, she actually does somersaults. She walks around with her tail held high, and is being spoiled by both daddy and mommy. She’s walking on the leash now (on our block only), but we have yet to train her to heel. Once we put the leash on her, she runs to the front door all excited. She loves her walks, but becomes startled at barking dogs and loud noises and wants to rush back home.

We are really enjoying her and, of course, believe we got the cutest puppy of the litter. (LOL). I’m sure all the other new owners think the same thing. Attached are a couple of pictures for your enjoyment.   Feel free to post them on your blog.

Its been an interesting ride having these puppies.  Our families lives were kinda taken  over for the first 9 weeks of their lives.  It seemed that every moment in one way or another we were involved with them.  Its a happy day to have them all go to good homes and a sad day to see them all go.

Remember now is the time to be working on obedience.  It took our puppy 5 minutes to learn how to sit and stay to earn her dinner.  The puppies should be learning to heal.(any ideas would be appreciated).  Kennel is important at this age and introducing them to lots of new things is great.  I noticed that on our first walk with a leash that we had to go past 2 noisy barky dogs.  Our pup did not like it  but now she walks past and doesn't even notice them.  Most of all have fun with them.

Thanks for looking!

7 WEEKS OLD

Today is puppy pick up day.  4 of our babies have left us and we are trying to cope with the lose.  During the next week we have 3 more going to their new homes.

We are so happy with the homes of our puppies.  Everyone is so excited and happy to have them.

I introduced the puppies to a pheasant wing this week.  Its amazing to see what these little babies have the instinct to do.

These dogs have the breeding of generations of great dogs and owners behind them to give us this great product we see today.

It hit 104 degrees yesterday and its going to stay in the 100's for the next few days.  We have added a small pool to the back yard and every once in a while we give the puppies a dip.

they just sit there and relax

Sage loves the water and she's a great swimmer
Its been another great week!

PUPPIES 6 WEEKS OLD!!

Puppies went to the Vet yesterday and received a check up, their 6 week shots and a de-wormer.  Amy had the job to take the puppies to the doctor.  First she had to get the dog crate to fit in her car and then she had to get the 10 of them in the pen.  Once to the doctor she had to figure how to move about 100 pounds of puppy into the doctors office.  It took 4 of them to each grab a corner of the crate and take them into the office.
The work then began, they went to work weighing each puppy and getting them checked.  All the boys have their boy parts where they should be and the girls the same.  The weight was surprising to me.  They all weighed between 7.5 and 9.2 lbs.  Pepper was the winner in the weight battle.

My daughter Erin put another video on youtube today.  Here is the link.

This week we began feeding the puppies solid food with no water to soften it.  They are doing great.  We also are trying to stop having Sage feed the puppies.  Easier said than done.
Next week the puppies can begin to go to their new homes.  They are really doing well and have been a joy.

PUPPIES 5 WEEKS OLD

Today and earlier this week everyone who put money down got to make their picks.  By the end of the day we had 8 very happy future puppy owners.

One of the great things about having such a large variety of puppies is that out of the first 8 picks everyone got their first pick!
This is our friend Clark whom we named our puppy Clark after   Special boy!!
